Pokémon Plakoro Launches in South Korea: Build, Battle, and Collect in Bandai’s New Model Kit Game

Pokémon fans in South Korea have something completely new to look forward to. Bandai Namco Korea has officially announced the launch of Plakoro, an all-new Pokémon hobby that combines snap-fit plastic model kits with a tabletop battle game. Launching on July 31, 2026, Plakoro is unlike anything Bandai has released before, bringing together model building, strategy, collecting, and even organised competitive play.

If you've ever wished your Pokémon model kits could do more than sit on a shelf, Plakoro might be exactly what you've been waiting for.

What is Plakoro?

Plakoro (プラコロ) is Bandai Spirits' newest Pokémon hobby line. The name combines "Pura" (Plastic Model) with "Koro", referencing the small collectible game pieces used throughout the series.

Unlike Bandai's existing Pokémon Model Kit Quick!! series, Plakoro isn't just about building display models. Every completed Pokémon becomes a playable character in a tabletop battle game where players use dice, move cards, and strategy to defeat their opponents.

Think of it as a combination of:

  • Pokémon battles
  • Gunpla-style snap-fit model kits
  • Dice-based tabletop games
  • Blind-box collecting

Bandai has even announced organised tournaments and official events in Japan, showing that Plakoro is intended to become a long-term hobby rather than a one-time product line.

How Does the Game Work?

Each player builds their own Pokémon model, known as a Charakoro. Every Pokémon has its own unique set of Technique Cards (moves), abilities and statistics.

A typical turn works like this:

  1. Choose one of your Pokémon's available Technique Cards.
  2. Roll your Energy Dice.
  3. Check whether the required symbols appear.
  4. If successful, your Pokémon performs the attack and deals damage or activates special effects.

One clever mechanic is that you can't simply spam your strongest attack every turn. Players are required to rotate between different moves, forcing them to think ahead and adapt to the flow of battle.

Some Pokémon specialise in powerful attacks, while others focus on healing, defensive abilities, counterattacks, or consistent damage output. Although luck plays a role through the dice, strategy is an important part of winning.

Starter Sets

The Korean launch includes six Starter Sets featuring some of Pokémon's most recognisable characters.

  • Bulbasaur
  • Charmander
  • Squirtle
  • Pikachu
  • Eevee
  • Mew

Each Starter Set contains everything needed for one player to begin battling, including:

  • One buildable Pokémon model
  • Energy Dice
  • Technique Cards
  • Character Card
  • Life Counter
  • Custom Chips
  • Rule Sheet

Bandai Namco Korea is also releasing First Limited Edition Starter Sets. These contain exactly the same contents as the regular editions, but are being offered at a special promotional launch price.

Adventure Box 01

Alongside the Starter Sets, Bandai is introducing the Adventure Box 01, a blind-box product aimed at collectors.

Each Adventure Box contains one random Pokémon from a collection of 36 different Pokémon.

Inside each box you'll find:

  • One random Pokémon model kit
  • Character Card
  • Technique Cards
  • Custom Chips

Adventure Boxes are designed as expansions for the game. Because they don't include the Energy Dice or Life Counter found in the Starter Sets, you'll need at least one Starter Set before you can start playing.

How Much Does It Cost?

In Japan, the regular Starter Sets retail for approximately ¥990, while the promotional First Limited Editions launched at just ¥500. Adventure Boxes retail for around ¥385 each.

Bandai Namco Korea has announced the products for the July 31 launch, although local pricing may vary depending on the retailer.

Why Plakoro Could Be Bandai's Next Big Pokémon Hobby

For years, Pokémon fans have had model kits, trading cards, and video games, but very few products have combined multiple hobbies into one experience. Plakoro changes that by bringing together:

  • Quick and easy model building
  • Collectible blind boxes
  • Strategic tabletop battles
  • Official tournaments
  • Future expansions and new Pokémon releases

Bandai has already revealed that additional Pokémon, Evolution Sets, accessories, and expansion products are planned beyond the initial launch, suggesting this is only the beginning of the Plakoro ecosystem.

Should You Buy It?

If you're already collecting Pokémon merchandise, Gunpla, or Bandai model kits, Plakoro looks like a fantastic entry point into a new hobby. The snap-fit builds are quick and beginner-friendly, while the battle system appears deep enough to reward repeated play.

Collectors may enjoy hunting down all 36 Pokémon from Adventure Box 01, while competitive players can experiment with different Pokémon, move combinations, and custom chip setups as the game grows.

Most importantly, Plakoro feels accessible. It offers an affordable way to build, collect, and play, making it an excellent option for families, younger fans, or anyone looking for a hobby that goes beyond simply displaying models.

Release Information

  • Release Date: July 31, 2026
  • Retailer: Bandai Namco Korea Mall
  • Launch Products:
    • Bulbasaur Starter Set
    • Charmander Starter Set
    • Squirtle Starter Set
    • Pikachu Starter Set

    • Mew Starter Set
    • Adventure Box 01

Plakoro is one of the most exciting new Pokémon hobbies we've seen in years. By blending model building with tabletop gameplay, Bandai has created something that feels fresh while remaining approachable for both collectors and newcomers. We'll be keeping a close eye on future releases, tournament support, and upcoming expansion sets as the Plakoro lineup continues to grow.

JUMP SHOP Returns to Seoul for a Third Limited-Time Pop-Up This Chuseok

The official JUMP SHOP is returning to Seoul for another limited-time pop-up event!

The upcoming JUMP SHOP in SEOUL Part 3 will be held at Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam from September 23 to October 6, 2026.

Taking place during the Chuseok holiday period, the pop-up will give manga and anime fans in Korea another opportunity to purchase officially licensed merchandise from some of Shueisha’s most popular series.

What Is JUMP SHOP?

JUMP SHOP is Shueisha’s official character merchandise store, featuring products based on manga published through the company’s Jump magazines and related platforms.

One of the biggest attractions is the opportunity to purchase merchandise featuring artwork taken directly from the original manga. These items are often described as “original artwork merchandise” because they use illustrations created by the original manga artists rather than artwork from the anime adaptations.

For collectors who prefer the original manga style, this makes JUMP SHOP merchandise especially appealing.

JUMP SHOP in Seoul Part 3 Event Information

  • Event: Limited-Time JUMP SHOP in SEOUL Part 3
  • Dates: September 23, 2026 – October 6, 2026
  • Opening Hours: 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Location: Central 1F Open Stage, Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam Branch
  • Address: 176 Sinbanpo-ro, Seocho-gu, Seoul

Featured Manga and Anime Series

The third Seoul JUMP SHOP pop-up will feature merchandise from an impressive lineup of popular series:

  • ONE PIECE
  • SAKAMOTO DAYS
  • Blue Box
  • Kagurabachi
  • Ichi the Witch
  • HUNTER × HUNTER
  • DRAGON BALL
  • NARUTO
  • BLEACH
  • Gintama
  • Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
  • Haikyu!!
  • My Hero Academia
  • Jujutsu Kaisen
  • Kaiju No. 8
  • The New Prince of Tennis

Katekyo Hitman Reborn! Added to the Lineup

The organizers have also highlighted Katekyo Hitman Reborn! as an additional featured series for the third Seoul event.

This will be welcome news for fans of the series, especially because official merchandise can be more difficult to find compared with products from currently airing anime.

A Major Event for Jump Fans in Korea

The lineup brings together classic Shonen Jump franchises such as Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, Gintama and One Piece alongside newer hits including Sakamoto Days, Kagurabachi, Blue Box and Ichi the Witch.

With so many franchises represented in one location, the pop-up should be worth visiting for manga readers, anime fans and collectors looking for official Japanese character merchandise in Seoul.

The event is only open for two weeks, so popular items may attract considerable attention, particularly during the Chuseok holiday and weekends.

More Information Coming Soon

Additional announcements and the latest event information are expected to be shared through the official social media accounts of Seoul Media Comics on Instagram and X.

Product lists, purchase limits and special promotional items have not yet been detailed in the announcement, so visitors should check for updates before heading to the store.

Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO: Everything We Know About Gundam’s Bold New Universe (2027)

A New Era Begins for Gundam

Bandai Namco Filmworks has officially unveiled Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, one of the most ambitious Gundam projects in decades. Rather than continuing the Universal Century timeline or creating another alternate universe based around familiar concepts, this series starts from scratch with an entirely original science-fiction setting.

Scheduled to premiere in 2027, RG XARX-ZERO is more than just a new anime. It serves as the foundation for the brand-new RG Project, a multimedia universe that combines anime, video games, Gunpla, action figures, and other media into one interconnected storyline.

What Does "RG" Mean?

Many Gunpla fans immediately assumed "RG" referred to the popular Real Grade model kit line. Surprisingly, that isn't the case.

In this project, RG stands for the RG Project, a new multimedia initiative created by Bandai Namco Filmworks.

The first two confirmed entries are:

  • Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO (Anime)
  • GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT (Video Game)

Rather than telling the exact same story, both titles exist within the same universe. The anime explores the origins of this new timeline, while the game takes place roughly one hundred years later, allowing players to experience the consequences of the anime's events from a completely different perspective.

A Completely New Timeline

One of the biggest surprises is that this series abandons nearly every traditional Gundam concept.

There is:

  • No Earth Federation
  • No Zeon
  • No Universal Century
  • No Anno Domini timeline
  • No Minovsky particles
  • No Newtypes (at least none have been revealed)

Director Kenji Kamiyama explained that he wanted to build a Gundam universe completely from the ground up while still preserving what makes Gundam unique.

Instead of another war between human factions, humanity now faces something far more mysterious.

The Story

The story begins after humanity discovers an Autonomous Interstellar Object arriving from beyond our Solar System.

The object gifts humanity three revolutionary technologies:

  • Gravity Control
  • Faster-than-Light Communication
  • Cognitive Materialization (turning thoughts or images into physical matter)

These discoveries trigger humanity's greatest technological boom. Civilization expands across the entire Solar System, and for a brief period, mankind enters an unprecedented golden age.

Unfortunately, less than ten years later, everything changes.

The same interstellar object suddenly goes out of control and begins producing an aggressive self-replicating silicon-based ecosystem.

This terrifying new lifeform becomes known simply as The Apocalypse.

The Fall of Earth

Humanity fights desperately against the Apocalypse for three months.

Despite their advanced technology, they fail.

The conflict reaches a stalemate in Earth's orbit, forcing humanity to make an unimaginable decision:

Abandon Earth.

From that point onward, history is divided into a new calendar called:

A.A. — After Apocalypse

The anime begins during A.A. 45, meaning an entire generation has now grown up without ever living on Earth.

Children born on the Moon and within space colonies know Earth only as humanity's lost home.

Meet Ray Azumi

The story follows Ray Azumi, a young war orphan who lost both of his parents during an Apocalypse attack.

Ray becomes the official pilot of the experimental Gundam ZERO, placing him at the center of humanity's struggle for survival.

He is voiced by Takeo Otsuka, known to many anime fans for his role as Aqua Hoshino in Oshi no Ko.

Gundam ZERO (XARX-0)

The series' main mobile suit is officially designated:

Model Number: XARX-0

Bandai currently describes it simply as:

  • Latest-generation experimental Gundam
  • Anti-Apocalypse mobile suit
  • Prototype Gundam

Interestingly, almost every technical specification remains secret.

We still don't know:

  • Overall height
  • Generator output
  • Armor materials
  • Main weapons
  • Special combat systems

This suggests Bandai intends to reveal more details closer to the anime's release.

The Apocalypse

Unlike traditional Gundam series, the primary enemy isn't another nation or military force.

The Apocalypse is a silicon-based lifeform capable of:

  • Self-replication
  • Rapid evolution
  • Environmental consumption
  • Creating an expanding ecosystem

This makes RG XARX-ZERO feel closer to hard science fiction than many previous Gundam entries.

Who's Making It?

The creative team behind this project is incredibly impressive.

  • Director & Series Composition: Kenji Kamiyama
  • Original Concept: Yoshiyuki Tomino & Hajime Yatate
  • Science Fiction Setting Supervisor: Toh EnJoe
  • Gundam Design: Eiichi Shimizu
  • Music: Go Shiina
  • Animation: SOLA ANIMATION

Kenji Kamiyama is best known for works such as:

  • Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
  • Eden of the East
  • The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim
  • Star Wars: Visions – The Ninth Jedi

Gunpla Already Confirmed

Even though the anime is still over a year away, Bandai has already confirmed several products.

  • HG 1/144 Gundam ZERO
  • METAL ROBOT Spirits Gundam ZERO
  • GUNDAM UNIVERSE Gundam ZERO
  • Additional merchandise and collectibles

At the time of writing, there are no announcements regarding:

  • Real Grade
  • Master Grade
  • Perfect Grade

However, if the anime proves successful, it wouldn't be surprising to eventually see higher-grade Gunpla releases.

Our Thoughts

After more than four decades of Gundam history, creating an entirely new universe is a bold move.

Rather than revisiting familiar conflicts between Earth and space colonies, RG XARX-ZERO shifts the focus toward humanity's survival against an unknown alien ecosystem. The abandoned Earth setting, mysterious science, and multimedia storytelling all give the project a fresh identity while still keeping the iconic Gundam at its center.

For Gunpla builders, the confirmed HG Gundam ZERO is already exciting, but the larger picture may be even more interesting. If Bandai commits to this universe over the coming years, RG XARX-ZERO could become the foundation for an entirely new generation of model kits, games, and stories.

With its unique setting, experienced creative team, and ambitious world-building, Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO is shaping up to be one of the most exciting Gundam projects in recent memory.

4th Wave ONE PIECE x NBA Figures Arrive in Korea with Trafalgar Law and Yamato

The worlds of anime and professional basketball are coming together once again as preorders begin in South Korea for the latest ONE PIECE × NBA collaboration figures.

Bandai Namco Korea has announced that the new collectibles are available for preorder through the Bandai Namco Korea Mall, combining popular ONE PIECE characters with the uniforms and visual identity of major NBA teams.

ONE PIECE Meets the NBA

This special collaboration combines the energetic and competitive atmosphere of the NBA with some of the most recognizable characters from ONE PIECE.

The figures are being released under Banpresto’s MASTER STARS PIECE brand, a figure series known for its impressive character presence, dynamic poses, and detailed sculpting.

Rather than simply placing the characters in basketball jerseys, the figures are designed to recreate the powerful appearance of the official collaboration artwork. Their action-focused poses make them look as though they have jumped directly out of the key visual.

Golden State Warriors Trafalgar Law

One of the newly announced figures features Trafalgar Law representing the Golden State Warriors.

Law appears in Warriors-themed clothing while retaining the recognizable personality and visual style that have made him one of the most popular characters in the ONE PIECE series.

The combination of Law’s calm and intimidating appearance with the Warriors’ famous basketball branding gives the character a very different look from his usual pirate-themed figures.

Milwaukee Bucks Yamato

The second newly revealed character is Yamato, representing the Milwaukee Bucks.

Yamato’s powerful character design fits naturally with the athletic theme of the collaboration. The figure combines Bucks-inspired clothing with a dynamic pose and the detailed presentation associated with the MASTER STARS PIECE line.

Two More Characters Will Be Revealed

Trafalgar Law and Yamato are part of the fourth wave of the collaboration, but Bandai Namco Korea has confirmed that two additional characters will be revealed later.

The identities of the remaining characters have not yet been announced, giving fans another reason to watch for future ONE PIECE × NBA updates.

Korean Preorder Information

Preorder start date: July 24, 2026

The figures are available through the Bandai Namco Korea Mall. Pricing, release dates, delivery schedules, and availability may differ depending on the individual product listing.

With its unusual combination of anime characters, professional basketball teams, and high-impact figure designs, the ONE PIECE × NBA collaboration should appeal to both figure collectors and NBA fans.

Which NBA team would you like to see paired with the next ONE PIECE character?
